BOY HOWDY AM I GLAD YOU ASKED

Critical Role is basically a web series where a bunch of very talented, very funny voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons together. Let me begin by saying you do NOT need to know anything about D&D. I certainly knew next to nothing when I began, and if anything that made it more fun? The game is run by Matthew Mercer, who I’m pretty sure sold his soul to an ancient deity because his story-telling, improv and voice-acting skills are ABSURD.

The campaign centres on a group of adventurers called Vox Machina, who travel around getting up to shenanigans, killing things, and occasionally saving the world. The group consists of:

• Vax’ildan: half-elven rogue, sarcastic little shit who loves his friends a lot but isn’t very good at dealing with emotions, heart of gold under all that snark. twin brother of Vex. CANONICALLY BISEXUAL.
• Vex’ahlia: half-elven ranger, haggler extraordinaire, flirts with anyone and everyone, doN’T touch her pet bear or she’ll fuck you up, the vodka aunt of the group. twin sister of Vax. CANONICALLY BISEXUAL.
• Pike Trickfoot: gnome cleric, A RAY OF SUNSHINE IN THIS GODFORSAKEN WORLD, the Mom Friend™, when she’s not there bad things happen and literally everyone says “i wish pike was here”
• Grog Strongjaw: goliath barbarian, likes ale and killing things and ale, i love him and support everything he does. looks like he could kill you and would definitely enjoy killing you but is really just a teddy bear.
• Percival Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III: human gunslinger, “you can just call him percy”, my Disaster Son who makes Interesting Life Choices, the best one-liners, i love suffering
• Keyleth: half-elven druid, BEAUTIFUL IDEALIST DAUGHTER, she just wants to help people, very awkward but she’s doing her best, please protect her (but also don’t because she’s powerful as FUCK)
• Tiberius Stormwind: dragonborn sorcerer, HE’S ONLY THERE FOR LIKE 20 SOMETHING EPISODES BUT I STILL LOVE HIM, the Dad Friend™, lil bit bumbling and oblivious but he’s actually smart as hell, FIREBALL
• Scanlan Shorthalt: gnome bard, oh my god scanlan please don’t shit in the temple, honestly the mvp of vox machina, one time he took on an entire squad of guards and a mini-boss by himself and it was amazing

Apart from the fricking fantastic characters here are some real quick reasons why you should watch the show:

• STORYLINE. Matt Mercer is an unholy devil who comes up with the coolest quests ever ahhhh. Also some of the quests involve the characters’ backstories and you’ll suffer and cry and it’s amazing.
• COMEDY. good lord it’s literally impossible for me to watch this show in public because i’m constantly giggling. the interactions between the players are hilarious and some of the plans they come up with are just golden. there’s also an amazing amount of shit involved. literal shit.
• FRIENDSHIP. i’m complete trash for any kind of group/makeshift-family and this show has SO MUCH OF IT and i LOVE ALL MY KIDS

SO BASICALLY Critical Role is amazing and also the fandom is SUPER talented and all the actors are just so lovely and they enjoy the show so much as well so 10/10 definitely recommend to everyone.
