#people who don’t watch doctor who probably think this is a silly post #people who do watch doctor who are shaking in their boots

#midnight is a tERRIFYING EPISODE okay

We still dont even know what the THING WAS

I was simultaneously laughing and crying through this entire scene.

there is no monster in all of doctor who that terrified me as much as this one. I mean yeah there have been terrible, terrible creatures, but the doctor always managed to defeat them. He didn’t manage to defeat this one. It’s still out there, on the diamond planet and it would’ve killed him and taken over the whole universe if it wasn’t for that stewardess. Because if a creature like that can live on the diamond planet – a planet where everyone thought nothing can survive, what can it do to the rest of the world?

I bet it’s out there right now, having tea with the vasta nerada, Silence, and angels.

The thing that terrified me about this episode wasn’t the creature, or demon, or whatever it was.  It was the humans.  And their fear.  They were ready to kill something because it was new.  They were ready to kill the Doctor because of his intelligence and curiosity.  That’s the thing about humans- we’re not bad, we’re just so scared of the unknown that, in situations like this, we’ll forget our morals and our minds and we will do anything- anything– to return things to normal.

This was one of less than ten episodes of DW I’ve ever seen, and if the rest of the show is anything like this, fuck Supernatural, it’s the scariest shit I’ve ever seen. Colin Morgan aside, at least SPN monsters are just that, supernatural- they’re not real, they can’t harm us (cannibalistic hillbillies etc aside, I mean in general). It’s like Voldemort vs Umbridge- the greater, distant horror will never be as frightening to you as the one you experience on a day to day basis.

Having never watched the old series, I never realized that Sarah’s time as a companion was more than just backstory. This is shattering my existence on a new level.

I had a massive crush on her, and it was kinda weird because she was so old because I was like thirteen when I watched the Tom Baker series. It’s pretty cool for me to watch a whole new generation of people get into Doctor Who…especially when they go back and watch the stuff I loved when I was a kid.

This photo set is made more poignant when you remember that Elizabeth Sladen died in 2011. Now it’s Sarah Jane that will never be forgotten.

…and that picture is not it.

Actually, this is an image of Barnard 68, a dark interstellar cloud made up of dust and molecular gas, absorbing light.

The void this text is referring to is the Eridanus Supervoid, distant and apparently empty (though there are alternative explanations). The only way it’s been detected is by an apparent cold spot in the cosmic microwave background radiation.

That vaguely pointy looking shape is a vast expanse of space, half a billion light years across which, seemingly, contains absolutely nothing. This isn’t empty the way space around us is empty – the interstellar space in our galaxy is full of gas, dust, ions, plasma… all sorts of things (including clouds like Barnard 68 up there). This? This is a void. A big, inexplicable, vacuous expanse which should not be there.

It’s like a hole in the Universe.

You people don’t understand at all do you? It’s not a hole or a void. It’s part of the universe removed. Say hello the the last known place of gallifrey and the time war.

My mam’s friend is 53 and completely against me watching Doctor Who. He says it’s for children and that I shouldn’t be watching it or reading books and I should live in the real world. Reblog if you disagree. I have a point to prove.

You’re never too old for Doctor Who!

Plenty of my friends’ parents still watch it, and they’re all over 40 at least!

yes, a children’s show

The moment you look at him and he feels right.

that’s peter capaldi enjoying his dream role

CUTIE.

Everyone ATTENTION.

We literally have proof that we are watching a mans dreams come true. We are watching him do the role he has wanted to do since he was a child. This role is what made him become an actor and he has literally waited his whole life to be the doctor and not a side bit but the doctor.

We are watching one mans miracle. And I don’t care who the writer is and the plot lines etc because this doctor has been waiting longer than most of us have been alive to do this. And that my dear tumblrers is the most amazing thing in the world. He is an inspiration to EVERYONE that if you are patient and just keep working at it that your dreams from when you were a child do come true and there is ALWAYS room and reason to hope and to continue on no matter what.
