She didn’t look at him differently after the accident, she treated him the same way as before. Hanji had to, she needed to. She wanted to.

Marco didn’t need people constantly asking him if he was okay. He didn’t need them treating him like he was damaged and broken.

No one needed that.

He needed to be treated like everyone else, like a human being. He needed to heal his way, and being constantly badgered with “Are you okay?”, “How are you feeling?”, “Do you need to rest?”. These questions did need to be asked, but not every minute of every day.

Hanji could tell it was beginning to get to him, every time it was asked he twitched and frowned, his eyes shone with annoyance with their tone and their inability to understand. She didn’t understand herself what he was going through, however she had seen it enough with others to pick up what to and not to do or say.

Instead when he would normally make his way to her office to begin work, she was already at his room and already had two mugs of tea made and ready in her hands. An action she had done a few times before when she pulled all nighters or when she had woken up early enough. It was their unspoken rule, whoever arrived first made the tea and/or coffee. Since he wouldn’t be allowed out for a while, she thought it best to keep that routine.

Hanji gave him her usual smile, her usual “Good Morning, Freckles!” in a happy and excited tone. Her poor assistant looked like hell chewed him up and spat him back out again onto the bed. She placed the mug on his side table and took the empty seat next to him.

“Good morning, Major Zoe.” She could tell his response was a reflex to being greeted in the morning. Hanji took it as a good sign that the routine hadn’t been completely broken. She wanted to help keep him feeling as normal as she could, showing that he was still human and viewed as such.

“Let’s get ready for the day then, hm?”

Working early was something Marco was used to, as well as Commander Zoe, but day after day… You don’t really stop being tired.

Shuffling papers and humming was something they did every morning. Marco did it to make a little bit more allowance to send home, and Hanji happily obliged for him. It wasn’t much, but it was something he appreciated way more than he could put into words.

This morning however, things were going slower than usual. Usually, they were a bit more active. Today, it was rainy, quiet, and boring. Finding himself nodding off between boxes of files and notes, Marco shook himself awake. Yawning silently, he set down the folder he had.

“Major, would you mind if I got us some coffee?” A reasonable request that was totally understandable. After some silence, Marco thought she might not have heard him.

“Major Zoe, may I get coffee?” He repeated himself, a bit louder, but his only response was a noise. Looking up from the box of endless papers, it seemed she had fallen asleep at her desk. A minuscule smile graced his face as he pulled himself up from the floor. A quiet ‘oof’ and a crack of his tired knees later, he was standing up straight. Checking the time from the big clock on the side wall, it was about the time when they stopped anyway.

Rolling his stiff shoulders back, Marco pressed his tongue against his cheek. Was he supposed to leave? Wake her up? Stay and continue working?

Rocking on his heels momentarily, his eyes rolled from one end of the room to the other, trying to find something he could possibly ‘accidentally’ knock over to wake her up. Seeing nothing of the sort, without having to refile anything, he was really stuck.

The sound of something falling, without his touch being needed, definitely made him jump. Hanji had moved a bit in her sleep, but still didn’t wake. She knocked a couple things off her desk; her cloak included. Shuffling over, the freckled boy picked up her papers and files, organizing them before setting them back.

The dark green cloak sat on the floor, alone and kind of sad looking. Taking it upon himself, Marco picked it up. Hanji slept still, getting sleep she most likely needed a lot more than he did. Doing the only thing he really could, he tucked the cloak around her shoulders.

She looked at least a bit more cozy now.

With her safely stashed at her desk, Marco was going to get himself some coffee.

Okay, so I need to tell y’all about one of my favourite things about rping Hanji.

Rping her with Marco.

I’m not sure if she ever met Marco in the Manga, but as far as I remember in the anime, they never got a chance to meet before he died.

So getting the chance to rp them meeting, and they seem to have grown this sort of… Bond.

Some people tend to forget that Hanji gives a damn about humanity, and is more than just a titan and science crazed soldier. So after a few rps with Marco, a later one revealed that he was sending most(if not all) of the money he was earning home, and that it wasn’t seeming to be enough. Hanji let him have a side job with helping her with her work to let him earn a small amount of extra cash to send home.

Since then, they have developed an almost mother/son like relationship.

This is also mostly in part of how beautifully my nametwin rps Marco, and we have a tendency to talk about things on skype about these two. Mostly about how fucking adorable things end up :‘3

I’m really looking forward to seeing how these two grow together, both them as characters and their relationship.
